Wednesday September 25, 2024, Antica Distilleria Petrone kicked off an unprecedented event: the 1st Edition of the Petrone Limoncello Immersion.
After having already made history with the Elixir Falernum, subjected to underwater refinement, the company continues its exploration into the world of underwater refinement, this time with the famous Limoncello.
This extraordinary initiative took place in the heart of Naples, off Castel dell'Ovo, an iconic place that embodies the beauty and tradition of the city.
An Underwater Adventure
During the event, a case containing 450 bottles of the classic Limoncello Petrone was immersed 15 meters deep in the Gulf of Naples, precisely in the small port of Santa Lucia. The refinement will last 12 months and, at the end of this period, the Department of Agriculture of the University of Naples Federico II will conduct a scientific analysis to study the effects of the underwater stay, replicating the approach already adopted for the Elixir Falernum. The results of the research of the latter will be presented by December, to discover how this refinement method influences the liqueurs.
An event with a heart of solidarity
The Limoncello Petrone dive is not just an experiment in refinement; it is also a social initiative. Thanks to the collaboration with the ArcheoClub d'Italia, the positioning of the box on the seabed involved the boys of the Penal Area of Naples, participants in the MareNostrum project. A project that offers growth and training opportunities to young people in difficulty.
A special welcome
The guests of the event were welcomed with a welcome breakfast at the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia in a convivial atmosphere and, after the dive, a brunch full of delicacies followed, including the traditional and unmissable casatiello di Casatiè Petrone.
Comparative tasting of Elixir Falernum
Finally, together with the guests, a comparative tasting took place between the classic Elixir Falernum and its version refined in the sea for 12 months. A magical moment, in which the guests, guided by the expert sommeliers of AIS Caserta, were able to appreciate the differences and nuances created by this unique experience.
